COVID-19 in Cambodia

Active cases grow for Cambodia as higher COVID levels continue

Cambodia’s daily case numbers kept at their new ‘high’ level today – with the number of active cases also growing.

Today’s official daily new COVID case total was 657, bringing the COVID case total to 100,790 cases.

The total number of Community Cases is now 83,604 with 17,186 cases being imported.

Unfortunately, a new policy to stop releasing any provincial figures – which appears to have come in force late last week – has meant that it is now extremely difficult to gauge the true extent of COVID in Cambodia.

Certainly, there seems to be a general upwards trend in The Kingdom – as illustrated in the graph (please note graph is 2 days behind) below:

Elsewhere, Phnom Penh’s schools were disinfected ahead of tomorrow’s reopening. It is hoped that this will signal the beginning of a return to ‘normalcy’ for the capital and Cambodia.

However, the Ministry of Health has cautioned of the possible spread of a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 virus if health measures not complied with.

153  imported cases were announced today as imported case numbers continue to be higher as a consequence of the Thai border reopening on August the 13th.

Cambodia also announced 9 new deaths, bringing the total to 2058 direct deaths from COVID-19 in Cambodia.

Recoveries were outpaced by new cases with 578 new recoveries announced today – meaning that the active case total rose to 3821 active cases.
